How to Spend Time with God: 20 Simple Ways for Busy Moms
Struggling to spend time with God? We all go through those periods. Whether you are overwhelmingly busy or going through a hard time, it happens.
But, no matter how little time you think you have, you can always find creative ways to spend time with God.
Here you will learn why time with God is so important along with easy ways on how to spend time with God even when you are a busy mom.
What Does it Mean to Spend Time with God?
Do you ever wonder, how can I be with God all the time?
God is always with us, but do we recognize His presence with us? It is not so much a matter of physically being with Him, but rather recognizing His hand in our lives.
Spending time with God also can mean doing things that would invite His Spirit to be with us.
You don’t have to physically be inside a church or temple to spend time with God. You can do it from the comfort of your home!
It also doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to be alone with God, although one-on-one time with God is crucial.
Sometimes we don’t get enough alone time as moms, but you can still spend time with Heavenly Father with kids crawling all over you.
Why is Time with God Important?
The more time you spend with God or surrounded with His Spirit, the happier you will feel.
You will feel peace and assurance that God loves you and is watching over you.
One of our purposes in life is to draw closer to our Heavenly Father and the more time you spend with Him, the closer you will be to becoming like Him.
Spiritual growth is greater when you spend quality time with God. You will have His Spirit with you, which will help you learn new things, forgive yourself and others, and become more like Him.
When you give your time to God, He will bless you more than you ever thought imaginable.

How to Spend Time with God Even When Your Busy
How do I spend time with God?
This question really depends on you. Some people will prefer quiet time while others need that time full of loud worship music.
Here are a few suggestions on how to spend time with God every day. These activities are easy and don’t take much time.
Do any of these during your self-care time, even if you just have five minutes!

1. Devotions
Devotionals are quick to read but can be so powerful for your life. I read a couple of devotionals throughout the week and most often, each one is exactly what I am struggling with at the moment.
One of the best devotional books I’ve ever used is God Hears Her. It has a daily devotional that takes less than five minutes to read. They are all so powerful and relatable to all women.
Proverbs 31 also has powerful devotionals that are sent directly to your email. It is convenient and they are all beautiful.
You can find plenty of devotional podcasts or videos to listen to while you do the dishes.

2. Prayer
Saying a prayer is one of the easiest ways to spend time with God. When you pray, you are literally talking to your Father in Heaven and He can and WILL talk to you if you listen.
Even if you don’t hear His voice, His Spirit and His presence will be with you throughout your prayer.
Notice the sensations you feel (warmth, peace, comfort), the words that come to your mind, and the scriptures that you think of. These are all some ways God will speak to you.
3. Journaling
Have you ever kept a spiritual journal? These types of journals help you to recognize God’s hand in your life and will instantly bring you closer to Him.

When you are going through a hard time and your faith is shaken, write about it. When you receive a blessing from God, write about it!
These are important to remember so you can look back on them to help you when you go through a new trial later on in life.
4. Bible Affirmations
There are so many great mantras and affirmations that come from Bible verses. When you wake up in the morning, say some biblical affirmations in front of the mirror.
This is an easy way to spend time with God in the morning and will only take a few seconds. Try to say 5-10 and repeat them daily.

5. Worship
Of course, I had to include worship. Going to church every week is a great way to show God He is a priority in our lives.
When you make it a habit, it is so much more enjoyable. I choose not to work or do other recreational activities every Sunday to show my dedication to God.
By doing so, Sunday has become my favorite day of the week and I love taking that time to be with Him every week.
6. Music
Music is so powerful and can have a profound impact on your spirituality. There are countless songs that will give me chills and help me to feel God as if He were standing right beside me.
Create a playlist that brings you joy and helps you want to spend time with God. When you are feeling sad, alone, or are struggling with your faith, listen to your playlist.

8. Nature Walk
Being in nature always helps me to reflect on God and all His wonderful creations. God created waterfalls, sunsets, and gorgeous flowers to bring us joy. And, He made me, and you. That is powerful.
Spend time in nature as often as possible. Going for a nature walk will help you to slow down in your life and focus on something else.
9. Podcasts
Can you find some good Christian podcasts that help you learn more about Christ?
Listening to podcasts is a great way to spend time with God! It may take some time to figure out your favorite ones, but when you do, it will excite you each time a new episode is released.
10. Scripture Coloring Book
Coloring helps us to kind of zone out and just relax. Art is used for therapy with little kids and adults and has been found to be very successful.
Find a nice scripture coloring book (like this one) and just have fun doodling! This is also a perfect calming activity to do with your toddlers too.
11. Self-Care
Spiritual self-care is just as important as other self-care routines.
There are plenty of great ways you can focus on yourself and rest while drawing closer to God.
Do some yoga, listen to a podcast while you soak in a bath, or read your scriptures while you drink a cup of tea. Find something that relaxes you while filling up your spiritual tank!

12. Talk to Others About Christ
When we share our testimonies to others about God and all He has done for us, how can He not be with us?
There are many verses where God asks us to preach His gospel to the world. This can be a simple Bible verse on Facebook or talking to your family or friend about what you have learned.
This is one of the top 10 qualities of godly women!
13. Self-Love
God created you, so when you talk badly about yourself, you are offending Him. He made you perfectly and worthy no matter what you do.
Practice some self-love. Forgive yourself for the mistakes you make, deep breath, practice affirmations, and try to accept who you are, because God sure does!

14. Gratitude
Practice being grateful! Keep a gratitude journal and write a few things each day you were thankful for. Can you name different things each day?
This is one of the easiest ways to slowly see the good in life and focus on the positives.
God blesses us when we have gratitude in our hearts throughout the day. He loves when we tell Him how much we love what He has given to us.
If you want to spend time with God at night, try naming everything you are thankful for until you fall asleep!
15. Memorize a Scripture
Try memorizing one of God’s words. Find your favorite scripture and memorize it. Then, repeat it as often as you can in your mind.
This is another creative way to spend time with God. See how many verses you can memorize in a year!

16. Meditation
You need to practice mindfulness every single day! I became such a happier mom when I started doing just five minutes of meditation each morning.
Guided meditation is the easiest and will help you to focus rather than let your mind drift.
You can even practice mindfulness with your spouse! It is a great date night idea too!
17. Read Some Books
Do you enjoy reading? Grab some Christian books to read!
Cuddle up with a good book and blanket, and enjoy relaxing while strengthening your relationship with God.

18. Quiet Time
Every now and again, dedicate some quiet time to spend with God. Find a relaxing place that naturally calms you down, and just focus on your relationship with your Father in Heaven.
You can practice any of these other activities during your quiet time if you want. There is great beauty when you can enjoy sitting in silence. Often this is when God speaks to us the best!
Learn how to “Be Still” so you can recognize when God speaks to you.
19. No Distractions
Don’t you just hate it when you are trying to talk to someone and they are just looking at their phone? Maybe God feels the same way about us sometimes.
If you want to spend more time with God, make sure you limit your distractions. Try not to have your phone, tv, or computer near you so you can fully appreciate the time you have.
This is a great time to do a phone fast to fully give your time to God!

20. Service
When you serve others, you are acting like the Savior. Christ wants to be right there with you when you rake your neighbor’s leaves or visit an elderly home. And where Christ is, God is there too.
Service is also a great way to help relieve our burdens. It allows us to help others and we naturally forget our own problems to take care of someone else.
Usually, when I do some type of service, I will also receive an answer to one of my challenges as well.
