There are many Christian songs for depression that I listen to all the time. Worship songs seem to be the best thing for me for my daily life when things start to get hard mentally.
Depression, anxiety, and other mental health disorders are an important topic to talk about. Lately, it seems like more and more Christian music is opening up about depression and mental illness and it is such a powerful way to help the weary soul who is seriously struggling.
So, I’ve came up with some of my favorite Christian songs about mental health and depression. I find it the perfect soundtrack to help with feelings of depression for me.
Hopefully you will find strength, peace, and comfort with these Christian songs about depression.

Best Christian Songs to Help with Depression and Anxiety
Here is my favorite list of Christian songs to listen to when depressed. I have these on my playlist and listen to them when I need a beautiful reminder of God’s love on a bad depression day.

In Jesus’ Name – Katy Nichole
This is one of the most powerful worship song to me. In Jesus’ Name is so inspiring and uplifting, I feel the power of the Holy Spirit every single time I listen.
I feel like this is a great song for mental illness because it talks about how we and others around us can and should use Christ Jesus to help us in our darkest times.
Prayer is so powerful and can do wonders in your life. It is by far one of my favorite Christian songs!
I Believe in You – JJ Heller
I Believe in You by JJ Heller is one of my favorite Christian songs about mental illness. She actually wrote the song for her friend who struggled with chronic illness, but it describes the seasons of depression perfectly and anyone struggling with a mental health disorder.
I have chronic illness, anxiety, and depression, so the first time I heard this was on one of my darkest days. It has helped me through many of my hard times, so I hope it helps you too.

Some Days – Brent Morgan
While this might not be one of the actual gospel songs for depression, Some Days by Brent Morgan is another one of my favorite modern songs about depression, I had to include it to this list.
It describes depression so perfectly and is such a simple yet beautiful song.
Gonna Be Okay – Brent Morgan
Another one of my favorites by Brent Morgan is Gonna Be Okay. My favorite part is when he shares, “When life gets overwhelming . . . don’t give up on you.”
Life is not your fault. Don’t give up on yourself, and if you can, seek the peace of God that comes from Jesus Christ.

Alive (It’s a Lie) -Kyle Hume
Again, not entirely sure if this is one of the contemporary Christian songs to help with depression. It definitely hit home for me when I first listened to Alive (It’s a Lie) by Kyle Hume.
Anyone who struggles with just surviving through the day and living with depression will really resonate with these words.
I think it is definitely one of the best songs about depression.
Be Still My Soul – Katharina Amalia Dorothea von Schlegel
Be Still My Soul has a powerful message and is great music to help depression that is sang at many Christian churches.
It has been an anchor of peace in my life and helped me to feel the perfect love of God, especially when I am struggling.

Hold On – Katy Nichole
Another good song for the hard days is Hold On by Katy Nichole. It is a powerful reminder and message of hope that if you just hold on, things will be better. My favorite lyrics of this song are, “You’ll find purpose in the pain.”
You Say – Lauren Daigle
One of the most emotional Christian songs is You Say by Lauren Daigle.
I think it is one of the top Christian songs about suicidal thoughts as she describes the negative thoughts she has about herself and how God replaces them with His truth.
God’s truth will always triumph.
Rescue – Lauren Daigle
Rescue is another beautiful worship music by Lauren Daigle. It talks about God coming to rescue us. He will help us in our time of need.
“In the middle of the darkest night, I will rescue you.” Sometimes that is the only hope we have is that God will help us.
We are all children of God. He is our light at the end of the tunnel and He will rescue us.

Damage – Caleb Hearn
Another one of the good songs to listen to when depressed is Damage by Caleb Hearn. I love how it talks about all the bad things that have happened in life and how it is used for good with God’s power.
It’s a great reminder that “Broken hearts just seem to always heal.” We know that is through the love of God.

Blessings -Laura Story
Blessings by Laura Story is one of the Christian songs about staying strong during hard times.
It helped me to rethink about what I see as blessings and what God sees as blessings.
“What if your blessings come through rain drops? What is your healing comes through tears?”
Sometimes we have to go through the eye of the storm to get the blessings and feel God’s love in your life.
During the darkest days of my life, I have felt God’s presence more than any other time.
Gratitude – I AM THEY
I count this as one of the overcoming depression songs as it shows the gratitude part after feeling God’s love and help and love through the difficult times.
Gratitude by I AM THEY is one of the most beautiful worship songs I’ve found.
I also find it one of the Christian songs to help with anxiety. Close to the end it says, “Come on my soul, don’t you get shy on me.”
The God of the universe is with you always and will help you with whatever you are struggling with.

Weary Traveler by Jordan St. Cyr is another one of the top Christians songs for depression. Anyone struggling with a mental illness can be described as a weary traveler.
Just remember the words from this song, “Weary traveler, restless soul, you were never meant to walk this road alone.”
Then Christ Came – Mercy Me
Then Christ Came by MercyMe is another one of my favorite songs for depressed people. It describes the journey of mental illness so well and how Christ will always come to our aid.
You may feel hopeless, like you can’t go on, but it is usually in that moment the Christ will come.
Sweet Redeemer – City of Enoch
This is another one that I listen to all the time as I felt it relates to my chronic illness.
“Restless and bare, kneeling, deep in despair, heal me.”

You Already Know – JJ Heller
Another beautiful song by JJ Heller, You Already Know is a great Christian song about depression.
“My weary heart can’t take much more surprise, I wish there was a point on the horizon, something I could see with my own eyes.”
It talks about how we have struggles and we pray and pray to God for help, but God already knows. He knows our past and our future and how He can help.
“Someday I hope the suffering makes sense.”
Too Good to Not Believe – Cody Carnes
Too Good to Not Believe by Cody Carnes is a great uplifting song to help when you are struggling with depression.
It talks all about Christ and how God is a God of Miracles and how there are so many miracles around us still.

This song is all about casting our burdens on Our Lord.

For a song about anxiety, try out No Pressure by Danny Gokey.

It Is Well with My Soul by Horatio Spafford is another great song for those struggling. It talks about how no matter what happens in life, we can believe all will be well because we have Christ in our life.

Casting Crowns has so many incredible songs, and one of them is Song of a Broken Heart.
It talks all about the struggles someone can face and how walls are up, and there are broken hearts that feel like nothing good can come out of them.

We probably can all relate to the words in Strong by Anne Wilson. We try to put on a brave face and seem strong to others, but deep down, we are weary and worn down.

I absolutely love JJ Heller and Missing Peace is another one of the best Christian songs about depression.
“I’m caught up in a battle, I wasn’t looking for.”
It talks about how the faith you have is not gone, but it is hard to feel it when you are struggling.
However, Christ is always the missing peace in our lives. He is always waiting there to help us with hope and bring peace to our struggles.
Love Me More – Sam Smith
I really enjoy Love Me More by Sam Smith. Many of us struggling with depression struggle with self-worth, low self-esteem, and need to practice some self-love.
“I used to cry myself to sleep at night, I’d blame the sky when the mess was in my mind.”
This song discusses how it was hard, but slowly he learned how to love himself more and it finally doesn’t hurt as it did before.
Giving yourself grace and self love is a process, but it can be done, and it will help with your mental health.
