Here are some of my favorite bible verses about anxiety and depression KJV style! They have filled my anxious heart and helped me during my dark times, so hopefully these scriptures for depression and anxiety will help you too! 

I have an anxiety disorder where I do get multiple anxiety attacks. I also have other mental illnesses such as depression, as do many of my family members. 

So, I know about hard times, about broken hearts, and I do know that not everything is fixed with a deep breath. 

When I am going through a difficult situation for a long time, my first step is usually to pray and to read the Word of God. It usually fills my heart with God’s love and helps me get through with thoughts of peace. 

So, I’ve compiled a list of my favorite bible verses about anxiety and depression. It is broken up so there is a section for scriptures on anxiety and then bible verses about depression afterward. Skip through and read exactly what you want and need throughout God’s word in these verses. 

Please note that while the KJV translation is used in this compilation, there are other translations available that may resonate with you. Feel free to explore different versions of the Bible to find the wording that speaks to you most deeply.

Always remember, God’s promises do come to pass eventually. God’s plan is greater than our own and sometimes it surpasses our own understanding. 

The good news is that the mighty hand of God IS in our lives and so is His unfailing love. When we are going through our own troubles, try to look to these scriptures for anxiety and depression to see God’s perspective and the good things that are to come eventually, in His due time.

Bible Verses for Anxiety

While many of the bible verses for anxiety and depression will tie into each other, here are ones that I found helpful for my own anxiety. 

1. 1 Peter 5:7 KJV

“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.”

This is the top scripture for anxiety and depression for me, just to know that God does in fact care for me. 

2. Matthew 6:34 KJV

“Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.”

While it is hard, God will provide for us. We need not worry. 

3. Jeremiah 17:7 KJV

“Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is.” 

4. Psalms 94:19 KJV

“In the multitude of my thoughts within me Thy comforts delight my soul.”

6. Joshua 1:9 KJV

“Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: He shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”

This is another one of my favorite scriptures on depression and anxiety. I know each time I pray and do my best to cast my burdens on Him, He does give me peace and relieves my burdens. He is always there to help.

8. John 14:27 KJV

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

I love this scripture on peace. I say it in my head all the time, especially during my anxiety attacks. He is the God of Peace and He surely does give it freely! 

9. Matthew 11:28-30 KJV

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

10. Psalms 23:1-6 KJV

“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: Thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: And I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever.”

“Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.” 

12. Matthew 6:25-27 KJV

This is another one of the lilies of the field. He takes care of the earth and everything on it, INCLUDING YOU. 

13. Isaiah 40:31 KJV

“But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.”

He will renew your strength! I’ve felt it time and time again.

Here are some of my favorite depression bible verses I’ve found. Hopefully they give you rest too. 

Reading these bible scriptures on depression won’t take away your mental illness, but hopefully they will comfort you, bring you hope, and help you have the Holy Spirit in your life to know what you need to do to help overcome your depression.

1. Matthew 5:4 KJV

“Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.”

This scripture for depression is so comforting to me. God will comfort us. I’ve felt His comfort and peace when I have mourned time and time again. 

2. Matthew 11:28-30 KJV

“Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

This is another one of the best depression scriptures in the bible. He will give us rest. His burden is light. He can take upon our sorrows and burdens and WILL give us rest. 

3. Psalms 3:2-5 KJV

“Many there be which say of my soul, There is no help for him in God. Selah. But thou, O LORD, art a shield for me; My glory, and the lifter up of mine head. I cried unto the LORD with my voice, And he heard me out of his holy hill. Selah. I laid me down and slept; I awaked; for the LORD sustained me.”

4. Psalms 119:28 KJV

“My soul melteth for heaviness: Strengthen thou me according unto thy word.”

5. Deuteronomy 31:8 KJV

“And the LORD, he it is that doth go before thee; he will be with thee, he will not fail thee, neither forsake thee: fear not, neither be dismayed.”

6. Psalms 9:9 KJV

“The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, A refuge in times of trouble. And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: For thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee.”

This is another one of my favorite bible scriptures for depression. God truly is our refuge in times of our trouble. He will never forsake us.

7. Isaiah 43:1-2 KJV

“But now thus saith the LORD that created thee, O Jacob, and he that formed thee, O Israel, Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine. When thou passest through the waters, I will be with thee; and through the rivers, they shall not overflow thee: when thou walkest through the fire, thou shalt not be burned; neither shall the flame kindle upon thee.”

I absolutely love this scripture! It was a scripture that inspired me on my blog name. God has redeemed each and everyone of us. 

8. Psalms 23:4 KJV

“Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”

This bible verse about depression really shows depression to me. The image of the valley of the shadow of death is exactly what depression feels like sometimes. 

There is another scripture that talks about how sometimes you walk through the valley of death but sun comes in the morning. Things will end. It will get better. 

9. Isaiah 53:4-5 KJV

“Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”
