As Christians, we know we don’t have to handle these stresses alone. God promises us peace and comfort in times of trouble.

In this post, we’ll look at some peaceful bible verses for when you are stressed that speak to managing stress and finding tranquility even in chaotic times.

Best Bible Verses for Stress

Here are some of the best bible verses to help with stress that I’ve found helpful along my journey to reduce stress and trust in God more:

1. 1 Chronicles 16:11 NIV 

“Look to the LORD and his strength; seek his face always.”

This is one of the top bible verses for overwhelming times. When you are feeling overwhelmed, just remember to focus on Christ!

2. Matthew 6:34 NIV

“Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.”

This is a great bible verse for stressful times, as it simply reminds us that God is in control. You don’t need to worry or fear.

3. Deuteronomy 31:8 NIV 

“The LORD himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.”

4. Psalm 34:4-5 NIV 

“I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant; their faces are never covered with shame.”

This is one of my favorite stress relieving bible verses! God will deliver us. Whenever I pray to Him, I know He hears and will answer me.

Know that God will help you when you are stressed, anxious, scared, or just need to feel His peace.

6. Genesis 28:15 NIV

“I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”

I find this to be one of the most powerful bible verses to help with stress. God is promising us to never leave us.

I need to remember this more during the stressful times in my life.

7. Exodus 14:14 NIV

“The LORD will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

Usually when we are stressed, we want to do anything but keep still. Use this scripture for stress to remember that the Lord is willing and ready to fight your battles for you, if you can trust in Him and be still.

8. Isaiah 41:10 KJV

“Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.”

This is one of the best bible verses about stress (KJV) and life in general! It is so powerful and brings me so much peace whenever I read it.

“Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.”

Sometimes we are going to have to go through hard times and trials, for this is how we grow. This is another one of the bible verses for stress and anxiety KJV that has brought me peace.

I know even when I am stressed and going through difficult times, it will make a stronger. All things are for my good.

10. Psalm 42:5-6 NIV

“Why, my soul, are you downcast? Why so disturbed within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God. My soul is downcast within me; therefore I will remember you from the land of the Jordan, the heights of Hermon—from Mount Mizar.”

11. Isaiah 26:3 NIV 

“You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you.”

12. Psalm 73:23-26 NIV

13. Psalm 55:22 NIV

“Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken.”

14. 2 Thessalonians 3:16 NIV

“Now may the Lord of peace himself give you peace at all times and in every way. The Lord be with all of you.”

15. Luke 21:19 NIV

“Stand firm, and you will win life.”

I love this translation of this verse! It is so simple, short, but oh so true.

16. Lamentations 3:22-24 NIV 

“Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, “The LORD is my portion; therefore I will wait for him.”

17. Luke 12:6-7 NIV 

“Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”

This is a bible verse for stress at work and life in general. Remember that God provides for the birds and everything in nature, so He can and will provide for you too!

18. Philippians 4:19-20 NIV

“And my God will meet all your needs according to the riches of his glory in Christ Jesus. To our God and Father be glory for ever and ever. Amen.”

Through Christ, God will take care of all our needs! This is one of the best bible verses on relaxing, as you try to remember that God already has taken care of everything for you as He gave you Jesus.

19. Hebrews 13:6 NIV

“So we say with confidence, “The Lord is my helper; I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”

I love all these scriptures about stress, but this one especially. It just reaffirms to me that God is in control and I should not worry what man can do to me; I got God on my side.

 20. John 14:27 KJV

“Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.”

This is my absolute favorite scripture. It is easily the top bible verse about worry and stress (KJV).

God has given us eternally peace through Christ Our Savior!

21. Proverbs 3:4-6 NIV

“Then you will win favor and a good name in the sight of God and man. Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Another one of the best scriptures on stress as it teaches us not to view life through our eyes, but to trust in the Lord.

22. 1 Peter 5:6-7 NIV

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.”

This is one the top bible verses for stress and anxiety! We can chose to trust in God and know that He will always help us.

23. James 1:2-4 NIV

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”

While this might not be the most uplifting of the scriptures for stress and depression, it can be.

We might still have to go through these struggles and challenges, but God is with us and will make these trials for our benefit and will give us strength.

24. Joshua 1:9 KJV

“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.”

Another one of my favorite bible verses for stress KJV has to offer!

25. Psalm 57:1 NIV

“Have mercy on me, my God, have mercy on me, for in you I take refuge. I will take refuge in the shadow of your wings until the disaster has passed.”

26. Matthew 11:28-30 NIV 

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

This is another one of my favorite bible verses on stress. I get so weary from all the stress I go through, it is such a relief when I remember to turn to Jesus and lay my burdens at His feet.

28. Psalms 28:7 NIV

“The LORD is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.”

Sometimes the best thing to do for stress is to remember how God has blessed you. That’s why a gratitude journal is so important!
